Katie McElwain is a self taught artist who began oil painting in 2007 shortly after moving to Boston's North Shore. While she minored in art in college and always had a passion for it, it wasn't until she moved with her family to Ipswich that she followed painting. Her art is inspired by the connection she has to the North Shore and the serene beauty that surrounds her, as well as the strong artistic community in Ipswich and surrounding towns. Katie's art is diverse and includes local beach scenes since she loves the ocean; colorful storefronts, cafes and restaurants; and the always whimsical pieces that feature donuts, pastries and sweets. She loves exploring various mediums, however her medium of choice is oil. She is an active member of the Ipswich art community and always enjoys connecting with new artists or people who love art and culture.
