Welcome to Small Town Friendly...
Historic Ipswich, Massachusetts

Located on Boston's North Shore, Ipswich, Massachusetts was settled in 1625 and is known for its First Period architecture, and is still home to 50 first period houses (1625-1725)...more than any other town in New England. In addition to its first period architecture, Ipswich is known to have the oldest stone arch bridge in America, the Choate Bridge, built in 1764.

Home to artists, writers, performers and musicians, Ipswich is renowned for its natural and cultural heritage. A year-round destination, Ipswich offers an array of antiques, specialty shops, and restaurants, all within the scenic atmosphere of historic homes and old mill buildings nestled along the Ipswich River. For a small town, Ipswich has a rich history and a wealth of visual, performing, cultural and literary art resources and events.

Come and enjoy live performances in our state-of-the-art theatre and movies in our new entertainment center (opening Fall 2009). Take a stroll over our new Riverwalk which connects the town's historic heritage on both sides of the Ipswich river with its downtown shopping area. Visit our
So-Cho arts district and dine at one of our superb restaurants (five of which have been Zagat rated). Relax on beautiful Crane beach, one of the Ipswich clams most scenic beaches in all of New England, with over four miles of white sand.

Whether you are a painter, sculptor or photographer...come to Ipswich where inspiration surrounds you.

Ipswich is home to many annual festivals and celebrations including Olde Ipswich Days; The Strawberry Festival; Chowderfest; and Annual Art Show & Sale, to name a few. We invite you to come share our local culture, art scene and, of course, our famous fried clams.

We look forward to your visit!

Alan Pearsall is winner of 375th Anniversary logo contest

Alan Pearsall's 375th Anniversary Logo

Local artist Alan Pearsall has won the 375th Ipswich Anniversary Committee's logo contest. Alan created the Ipswich History Mural on the side of EBSCO's building at the beginning of the Riverwalk from downtown. There were 8 entries and 203 people voted at the Town Hall & Library. Pearsall's logo will appear on T-shirts, tote-bags, coffee mugs, posters and banners promoting the town's 375th anniversary event being planned for next year.

The committee is still looking for volunteers to help in a number of areas. If interested, call Bonnie Hurd Smith at 978-741-1244 or email info@ipswichma375.org.
